Time Line is a unique radio based oral history project presented by Broadcast Journalists’ Lyttanya Shannon and Patricia Wright.
As a Heritage Lottery funded project our remit was to chart African Caribbean history from the 1950s up until the present day. We went even further than that, looking at Birmingham’s earliest black settlers – which our research showed, went back as far as the 1700s.
Already we’ve uncovered interesting stories, facts and anecdotes about the West Indian Contribution to the two World Wars; the trepidation of traveling to the mother land; and a look at the history of dual heritage relationships.
A mixture of personal experience, mixed with academic and expert opinions on what was going on socially, economically and politically in the past, in regards to the African Caribbean community - gives the listener the opportunity to learn something new about part of Britain’s black past.
